Whether you're a circus fan, Republican or just love elephants, you'll fall for this large quilted beauty. Her name is "Posey, The Patchwork Pachyderm". She measures approximately 36" from trunk to tail; 23" tall; and is 42" around her tummy. Each leg measures 20" around, and her trunk (from the top of her head) is 27' long. Posey is a big girl, weighing nearly 13 pounds.
The background fabric used to create Posey is a high quality, quilting cotton with a grey-on-grey color scheme with a subtle rose design throughout.
I machine pieced each square of the fabric, and then quilted it with an elephant pattern (look closely and you'll see elephants all over the fabric!). I've created her with great care.
Her trunk was fussy cut, with a border fabric pattern running down the length of it, and I then added custom quilted designs. She even has stitched nostrils at the end of her trunk.
Once Posey was sewn together, I filled each foot with over two cups of crushed walnut shells for weight. I inserted heavy gauge wire (that I covered to avoid poking through the fabric) into her trunk to hold its shape. I then filled her with six (SIX!) bags of high quality fiberfill to give her all her curves.
Every component of her look was carefully considered. Once Posey was assembled, I added her eyelids and custom-made eyes, completing her expression with real hair eyelashes. I chose to braid her tail, finishing her look from head-to-tail.
Her cover and headpiece were hand embellished by me, using beautiful batik fabric, specialty trims and ribbons. I hand-ruched the lavender ribbon throughout. The finishing touch on her headpiece was a large, glistening jewelry piece with aqua-colored stones, framed with a ruched ribbon flower.
Posey is a true one-of-a-kind. I created her for a quilt show, earning a Blue Ribbon (First Place) in its category, and also considered for its machine quilting. Ribbons are not included in this sale.
